Alfred Chapman, DO, DAAPM
Medical Director
Dr. Chapman is the Medical Director at Alternative Treatment International. He is a graduate of the Kirksville College Of Osteopathic Medicine, the founding school of Osteopathy. Following medical school and a traditional rotating internship, Dr. Chapman conducted two specialty residency programs, Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Internal Medicine. He continued with an additional two years of multidisciplinary pain management sub-specialty training in a supervised clinical outpatient practice and subsequently passed his credentialing examination through the American Academy of Pain Management.

Dr. Chapman, in addition to his responsibility for the overall medical care of ATI's clients, provides opiate detox induction and maintenance for opiate-addicted patients. Many opiate-addicted patients started down the road of addiction following an accident or other trauma that dictated the need for strong narcotic painkillers. As is the case for all too many patients, the narcotics that once provided relief from physical pain have now taken over their lives...and often the lives of their loved ones. Dr. Chapman offers a wide variety of alternative options to our chronic pain sufferers once they have detoxed off opiates. Just a few of these options include traditional Osteopathic Manipulation, image-guided nerve blocks, soft tissue trigger point and major joint injections, hormone replacement and manipulation under anesthesia. Many more options are available. He emphasizes, "I strongly believe that having a choice in how to effectively manage your chronic pain is a significantly liberating and empowering step in returning to a fulfilling, meaningful life".

Dr. Chapman currently provides patient care for several state agencies, including Florida's Professional Resources Network, the state's impaired medical practitioner monitoring program. He also provides detox services for the Florida Department of Corrections and periodically conducts officially designated continuing education for Florida law enforcement agencies in the arena of opiate addiction and treatment. In 2009 Dr. Chapman provided a keynote address to Florida's First Annual Prescription Drug Abuse Summit, the landmark event signaling the beginning of far-reaching, in-depth interagency cooperation in eliminating this state's tragically lethal "pill mill" problem.

Before practicing medicine, Dr. Chapman was a private-sector research scientist in San Diego, California, where he conducted proprietary research in the field of molecular immunology. His graduate thesis, "The Absorption Kinetics of Ribavirin in Human Mononuclear Cells using High Performance Liquid Chromatography", detailed how Dr. Chapman elucidated the interaction of this uniquely vital antiviral drug with human white blood cells. To this day Ribavirin is one of only a few effective drugs against Hemorrhagic Lassa Fever, Hantavirus and Hepatitis C. Dr. Chapman is also a medical device inventor and currently holds patents in thermal radiant solutions to the common cold. It is anticipated that his latest patented device will enter into FDA clinical trials in mid-to-late 2012.
